01 / UNDERSTAND THE SHAPE

What makes
this brush distinctive.

A long, narrow head

The long fibres act as a paint reservoir for continuous lines. How far one load goes depends on your paint and surface.

For twigs and grasses

Fine strokes of different lengths add organic details and movement to your subject.

For flowing lettering

The head responds to changes in direction and pressure. A planned, steady movement helps with lettering and ornament.

02 / YOUR SIZE

Which size suits you?

Two narrow, long heads for flowing lines. Compare the 1.5 and 2 mm head measurements using your paint on the same surface.

Head measurements shown in proportion to one another. Handle and head length are schematic.

The millimetre measurement describes the head size. Your painted mark results from angle, pressure, paint load and surface.

03 / FROM TOOL TO MARK

A good line begins before the brush touches down

Plan its path, adjust the paint load and test the first stroke. Fluid paint and an even movement allow the long head to do its work.

Adjust the load

Pick up paint evenly. Check that it flows without releasing a drop as soon as you touch down.

Draw the line

Preferably pull the brush behind your hand. Move your hand and forearm together when the stroke grows longer.

Taper off gently

Reduce contact towards the end and lift off gently. Plan branches as separate, steady strokes.

04 / IN THE STUDIO

Twigs, lettering and free lines.

A long line feels alive when you guide its path deliberately. Try a wave, a short piece of lettering and a branch with a few twigs. The studio lesson shows long, fine lines and writing with the brush.

  1. Reload the head before the line breaks unintentionally.
  2. Adapt the consistency to the paint medium.
  3. Begin with simple lines before combining several changes in direction.

06 / GOOD TO KNOW

Your questions.
Clear answers.

Which size suits particularly fine lines?

At 1.5 mm, the 10/0 has the narrower of the two stocked heads. Size 1 measures 2 mm. The actual line results from angle, pressure, paint and surface; the head measurement is not a fixed stroke width.

Why does my line break?

An insufficient paint load, a thick mixture or an absorbent surface can interrupt the mark. Check the combination with a test stroke and reload evenly. There is no fixed distance per load.

Can I thin acrylics and oils with water?

Conventional oil paint cannot be adjusted with water; use an appropriate painting medium if needed. For acrylics, follow the paint manufacturer’s instructions. Water-mixable oils are a separate case.

Should I use the same brush for oils and watercolour?

Separate brushes are sensible for oils and water-based paints. This helps prevent residues and different cleaning methods from affecting your next paint mixture.
