Tip and belly

Leaves, flowers and curved contours benefit from a flowing change between a fine beginning and a broader stroke.
This series is used with acrylics, oils, watercolour and gouache. Adapt the load and consistency to your paint each time.

Your selection ✓The millimetre measurement describes the head size. Your painted mark results from angle, pressure, paint load and surface.
03 / FROM TOOL TO MARK
Explore the tip and belly with your own paint mixture. Changing the contact area can alter the mark; a particular pressure does not produce a fixed stroke width.
Wipe off excess liquid and touch down lightly. Observe how finely the loaded tip releases the paint.
Let more of the belly touch the surface without bending the head back to the ferrule. Continue the stroke steadily.
Reduce contact as you continue and lift off gently. Compare the tapered ending on your test piece.

04 / IN THE STUDIO
Place fine lines, simple flowers and full areas of colour side by side. This shows how differently the same round head can work. The studio lesson demonstrates its versatility, from fine strokes to wet washes.

A different task, a different shape. These three models complement your brush and expand your possibilities.
06 / GOOD TO KNOW
The eleven stocked sizes range from a 1.3 to 7 mm head measurement. Small heads suit details and narrow shapes; larger ones offer more head volume for continuous, wetter strokes. Choose according to your subject and the paint load you need.
The tapered tip allows a larger round head to begin finely too. Paint load, consistency, pressure and surface also determine the result. A full head may release more liquid at the beginning than you want.
Yes. Fleury explicitly lists gouache alongside acrylics, oils and watercolour. Traditional gouache and acrylic gouache differ in whether they can be reactivated after drying; adapt your approach to the paint you use.
The round brush combines a tip and a fuller belly for varied lines and shapes. The 4581 has a short head for individual small accents. The liner brush 4621 is another option for long, fine lines.
