Wael Shawky shifts the perspective on history and unsettles what seems certain. The exhibition brings together the acclaimed trilogy «Cabaret Crusades» (2010–2014), which recounts the Crusades with puppets from an Arab viewpoint, and «Drama 1882» (2024), a filmic opera about the British occupation of Egypt. Films, installations and music theatre combine to show people caught in political, religious and social forces. A new film installation on the history of the Gulf region is shown for the first time in Europe at Kunsthaus Zürich, in cooperation with Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, EMST Athens and Bozar Brussels.
